From Thursday the 25th of October 2018 to Sunday 28th representatives of the University of Finance & Economics headed by Dongbei Vice-Rector Prof. Zhao Yanzhi, paid an official visit to the University of Thessaly. The two universities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding since October 2017, when representatives of the University, headed by the Rector, Professor Georgios Petrakos, visited Dongbei University in Dalian City of the People’s Republic of China. Purpose of the visit was to further deepen and substantiate the terms of the Memorandum and to develop cooperation between the two institutions by establishing a Research Center and Center for Chinese Language to exchange experience and tools and to mutually develop and exploit the results of joint research.

On February 22nd, 2019 a delegation of the Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi visited University of Thessaly and gave an overview of Khalifa University fields of study and scholarships offered to Post-graduate and Doctoral students interested to study at Khalifa University and emphasized on the possibility of staff and student exchange programs between the two institutions as well as the organization of common lectures and seminars. At the end of the discussion the officials of the two Universities agreed on signing a Memorandum of Understanding that contain regulations regarding the mutual student-, researcher- and staff exchange as well as the organization of common activities as lectures and seminars.

Center of International Education for the summer of 2019 organizes a Summer school for Chinese and Greek students entitled ‘Experience and Practice of Infrastructure Investment and Management in the Belt & Road Countries’. In the summer school will participate approximately 30 students from the universities of Central University of Finance and Economics and Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The summer school will address in depth research on improving regional integration, increasing trade and stimulating economic growth. Students will gain immense industry exposure due to their regular interaction with notable industry experts and by attending conferences on infrastructure development and management.

Center of International Education has submitted a proposal to the Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarter in Beijing, for the establishment of a Confucius Institute at the University of Thessaly in cooperation with the Central University of Finance and Economics. Aim of the Institute will be to promote Chinese language and culture, support local Chinese teaching, and facilitate cultural exchanges. CIs develop Chinese language courses, train teachers, hold the HSK Examination (Chinese proficiency test), host cultural and artistic presentations, and provide information about contemporary China. They also provide Chinese language teaching staff from Mainland China.
